Finding Your Final Cut Pro X Exports

Finding Your Final Cut Pro X Exports 1

This week on MacBreak Studio, Steve Martin from Ripple Training shows us a cool trick for locating your Final Cut Pro X exports in the Finder.

Have you ever exported a movie from FCP X and realized you forgot what folder you targeted? This happens to me all the time. Sometimes I'm doing so many exports that I simply forget to select a new location, or it's hours or days later that I go to find the file and I have no idea where I've put it.

This is where metadata in FCP X once again can be a great organizational lifesaver. But in this case, although you create the metadata within FCP X by tagging your videos during the export process, you actually use the metadata in the Finder. That's right, Spotlight (or the search field in any finder window) can search on the metadata tags you've added in FCP X – so even if you don't remember the file name of your exported movie, you can search on any and all tags. This is a super-useful tip that has already saved me time and frustation.
