While walking the show floor last week at NAB (http://www.nabshow.com/2012/default.asp) it seems like just about every solution provider on the show floor is now offering a Digital Asset Management solution. But on further investigation, what some of them are really offering is not so much of a DAM solution as a file store solution – not the real deal in my opinion. I don’t think they truly understand the complexities of DAM. However, for some of the DAM solution providers who were present at NAB, it was good to see them pushing the limits of their solution and adapting to the shift in how we create, interact and leverage content and deliver content. I did take note of your progress! Though time is always so limited at NAB here are some interesting innovations and inspiration from some solution providers who I was able to connect with.
Answering their customer’s demand of delivering content quick and secure, here is what John Price of OpenText had to say:
“A common theme in discussions at NAB was about orchestration. At all points, from when rich media is created, how it is managed and made searchable, to moving content to its destination(s). Organizations now have all these rich media assets needing to be tailored and delivered to multiple channels and it’s increasingly complex. There are many highly specialized and unique production environments – video, photography, images and layouts – all creating rich media for a multitude of channels including online, mobile, broadcast and print. How can you facilitate and enable all that’s involved to MAKE, MANAGE, and MOVE rich media in the organization?
At OpenText our native workflow engine provides the mechanics for that orchestration, customizing and automating processes, in a collaborative, secure and transparent manner.
In addition to orchestration, OpenText Managed File Transfer (MFT) can accelerate file transfer with secure, guaranteed delivery, reducing “wait” time. Tuning the orchestration requires insight from analytics, usage patterns, status and user activity, aggregating all the activity and actions taking place. OpenText Insights provides content analytics with custom and global views of what’s going on in multiple environments.
Organizations are recognizing that rich media assets, especially digital video, are more pervasive – from local offices to global departments, all are creating and using images and video for a multitude of purposes across every communication channel. It’s no longer which DAM (or MAM) system, it’s how many are in your enterprise. OpenText and its vast experience in Enterprise solutions understands the complexities and challenges faced by global companies. We can help you navigate your enterprise to the next level of success.”
An event like NAB would not be complete without attending a fantastic VIP party. One of the best was by far the ProMAX Shark Dive (http://www.promax.com/s-158-nab-shark-dive.aspx).
This was NOT your average cocktail party! They demonstrated a LIVE onset workflow in action. I was able to connect with one of the fearless shark divers Nate Cooper, shortly afterwards.
“On all accounts our NAB Shark Dive was a success! It gave our clients a chance to relax and was a fantastic unplug from your traditional Vegas’ parties. With the aquarium exhibits and a great list of guests networking was comfortable and abundant. Filming live inside of the shark tank with a Red camera allowed us to show off the power of the new ProMAX ONE 16 Core workstation powering an Avid/Red workflow and was great fun for everyone at the event.”
Let me know what you saw that was inspiring at NAB, and let’s share it with our readers!
