Looks like shit. Who would want to settle for blocky artefacts when only saving 35%?

Saars

This is now the best JPEG encoder/library (ahead of Mozjpeg and jpeg-turbo), but JPEG XL is still better than everything (read this, if you want proper scientific tests: https://cloudinary.com/blog/jpeg-xl-and-the-pareto-front). It’s kinda funny how Google included a link to some benchmarks and they conveniently left out JPEG XL. But to be fair, jpegli is great. If you want the best JPEG files. However, with JPEG XL you can get the best of both worlds, a file that is smaller and looks better and is supported by JPEG decoders (meaning, you don’t have to choose and there’s no downsides to using it).

Also, Denny, you don’t seem to understand what this is and isn’t and the purpose of it. Having said that, JPEG XL is the format everyone should move over too. You can build websites that show JPEG XL when the browser supports it and show JPEG when it doesn’t. Pretty simple.
