In this lesson, part 2 of our look at GenArts Sapphire’s Builder tool, Kevin P McAuliffe goes in depth to show you how he created the “Inner Limits” show opening element he teased in the first part of this tutorial series. As complicated as it might seem, you can quickly and easily create looks like this, right in your Media Composer timeline, with little to no experience what so ever!
I’ll be honest with you. Now that I’ve been using the Builder tool for a while now, I’m really starting to like it. I remember back to the “good old days” of Avid DS, and even Apple’s Shake (remember that??), and having the node-based workflow was something that I really missed in my NLE/Compositing workstation. The best part about the Builder tool, as you’ll see in this tutorial, is that with as much as it might seem like a complex tool, it’s actually very easy to get started with, and very easy to start creating your own complext looks right from within the timeline. What’s also very exciting is how we, in my opinion, are really only scratching the surface of where this tool can go, and I think that now’s the perfect time for editors to jump in and start working with it, as it will now let them create complex elements in their timelines, that only a year or two ago, would have been super complicated, or even impossible.
