In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe talks about working with Look Up Tables (LUT’s) inside of Media Composer. They’re not as simple to get “installed” in Media Composer as they are in other applications, as they are treated more like AMA Linked to parameters, as opposed to effects, but once installed, they can be worked with as easily as any other effect installed on your system.
Many people think that when working with Look Up Tables in Media Composer, that they are as simple to work with as any other effect, but to actually get them into Media Composer, you can do it one of two ways. If you have your mindset in the “AMA Link To” mode, finding where to get access to the LUT import command is tucked away in the Color Management section of your Color Adapters tab in your source settings. If you’re just looking for a “down and dirty” way to get the LUT’s installed, you can also find the Color Management options located in your Settings window. Remember, by default, Media Composer will give you many color looks that will correct certain shooting techniques like LOG to REC709 color space conversions, but what we’re talking about in this lesson is simple style, and once you get those LUT’s into Media Composer, you’ll be adding new looks in lightning quick!
