In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe talks about a common issue that Avid Media Composer editors run into with the Application Manager, and that is that they cannot download updates as it’s status is always “Syncing”. This technique should fix that issue, and get you downloading updates ASAP.
With the move to version eight of Avid Media Composer around two years ago, one thing that has caused editors a lot of grief, is the Application Manager. The Application Manager is not only what we use to keep track of the different licenses for different computers, but it also lets us transfer licenses from one machine to another, and it’s where we can download major, as well as point updates, to give us the newest features, and fix annoying bugs, the moment they are available. With all the being said, driving down the road with the Application Manager hasn’t always been the smoothest of trips. One major issue that editors run into all the time, is the dreaded “Syncing” issue with the Application Manager. You can’t download any of the newest updates, as the Application Manager is constantly “Syncing”. In this lesson, I’ll show you how to give the App Manager a refresh, and get you downloading your updates, as soon as possible.
Now, there’s something important that I do want to mention, and that is that you will see a lot of posts online that tell you that you’ll need to remove the “Licenses” folder in the Application Manager as well. If your licenses are installed and working fine, do not do this. All that will end up happening is that you’ll blow your local license away, and you won’t be able to re-install, as the license is still active on the Avid servers. You’ll need to contact customer support to have your system “unlicensed”, and then you can re-input it, to get back up and running.
