Media Composer 101 – Advanced – Creating Animated Background Beds

Media Composer 101 - Advanced - Creating Animated Background Beds 1

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe shows you how easy it is to create a background bed for your text, right in your Media Composer timeline.  Using Timewarp, BCC Colorize (which comes with your MC subscription plan), the built in MC Blur effect, and a simple title, you can add some style, and save yourself all the time it takes to export your footage to a program like After Effects.

For me, using After Effects is like second nature when editing.  I need to do some graphics work, I export the files I need, import into AE and start working.  But, you know what, sometimes it’s just easier to do things inside my Media Composer timeline, and now with third party plug-ins in Media Composer becoming more and more “the norm”, I always encourage editors to do as much work as they can in their NLE, and go to AE as a last resort.  At the end of the day, it’s going to save you a ton of time, and help you get your work done faster.  I thought for this lesson, we would take a look at something that’s pretty common place for editors, and that is making a background graphics bed, to compliment graphics that you need to put into your edit.  We’re going to look at the Timewarp effect, BCC Colorize (which comes with your MC subscription license), and the bulit in Blur effect, along with a pre-created title, and I’m going to show you how to combine them, quickly and easily, to create a simple, effective background bed.
