Media Composer 101 - What's New in Media Composer 8.4 1

In this lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe goes over the new features in 8.4 of Avid Media Composer including true Resolution Independence, Timeline Search and AAX Audio Presets.

The team at Avid has kept the update train rolling, and the version 8.4 update brings some much welcome features that if you’ve paid for your updates, will be a much welcome addition to your editing Toolkit. Here are just some of the highlights.

True Resolution Independence

Avid has been touting “Resolution Independence” for a while now, but with version 8.4, Media Composer editors now have the ability to create their own custom project sizes, so that if you’re working on a timeline for Instagram, for example, that has a 1:1 aspect ratio, you can now quickly and easily create a project that is 720×720 and work with your 16×9 footage easily in it, by utilizing Frame Flex.

Timeline Search

In the last update, Media Composer editors were treated to the ability to search for bins in their projects. In this update, we can now search for clips in our timeline, via the new search window, located at the bottom of the timeline window. Have multiple clips called the same thing? No problem. You can easily sift through the clips by simply clicking forward and backwards via the buttons beside the search window.

AAX Plug-in Presets

For editors who do a lot of audio work in their projects, the team at Avid has now included all the AAX presets that come with Protools, for you to use for your audio sweetening!
There are lots more new features that you can check out in this weeks tutorial!
