MicW, the Beijing-based manufacturer of quality recording, live and conference audio microphones, is launching 11 new products at this year’s Pro Light & Sound/Musikmesse exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, ranging from high-quality handheld vocal mics to compact, desktop, shotgun and boundary models.
There are additions to MicW’s E, N and G ranges – that is, respectively the company’s entry-level, nickel-diaphragm, and gold-diaphragm mic ranges – including some repurposed versions of previously released mics, in new physical formats for different applications. For example, the new HN151 and BN151 are handheld and desktop versions of the existing ‘bottle-shaped’ N151 nickel-diaphragm wide cardioid, designed for vocal miking and acoustic guitar. The new desktop version, the BN151, is designed to be used in broadcast and conference audio applications, in courtrooms or for teleconferencing.
“After a strong first year’s international trading, MicW is widening the focus of its three main ranges,” comments MicW’s Sales Director Qunli Wu. “Our aim is to have a microphone that’s right for almost any recording application, at price points that are attractive to anyone interested in recording.”
IN DETAIL
The 11 new microphones are as follows:
• N181
The N181 is a nickel-diaphragm version of MicW’s existing E181 E-series polymer-diaphragm shotgun microphone, which has already proved popular with location recording engineers in the UK. The aim of the N181 is to provide a higher-quality alternative at a still-competitive price point.
• N241
The N241 is a new robust half-inch nickel-diaphragm omnidirectional bottle-shaped microphone designed for high-SPL applications, such as miking percussion or brass instruments.
• N255 & CN255
The N255 is another new nickel-diaphragm microphone, similar to the N241 and with the same measurement-microphone-like ‘bottle’ profile, but with a wide cardioid polar pickup pattern, designed for live music, vocals and acoustic guitar recording. The CN255 is a compact version of the N255, preserving the half-inch diaphragm but available in a discreet package suitable for home recording, broadcast or concert hall use.
• HN101
A new handheld version of MicW’s existing nickel-diaphragm omnidirectional N101, ideally suited, like the N101, to recording vocals and strings.
• CN201
A new version of the existing nickel-diaphragm N201, with a compact form similar to that of the CN255, the omnidirectional CN201 is perfect for drum, guitar and bass miking, percussion and speech or vocals. MicW also sell the CN201 in pairs for overhead orchestral recording.
• HN151 & BN151
Two new versions of the existing ‘bottle-shaped’ wide-cardioid nickel-diaphragm N151, ideally suited for live vocals and acoustic guitar. The HN151 is a handheld version for use by a vocalist, while the desktop BN151 is designed with conference audio or courtroom applications in mind.
• HG106
A new handheld version of MicW’s existing top-of-the-range omnidirectional G106, the company’s high-quality gold-diaphragm microphone for close-miking applications.
• E436
A new addition to MicW’s entry-level E series of microphones, the E436 is a discreet miniature mic just 28mm long and 7mm in diameter, suitable for instrument spot miking and on-camera TV and broadcast work.
• BE426
The BE426 is MicW’s first boundary microphone, 60mm in diameter and designed to pick up and amplify speech and vocals for use in boardrooms, courtrooms and conferences.
