The folks over at DSLR News Shooter found that Ikegami is making a 4/3″ PL-mount camcorder—Ikegami, fercryinoutloud!
I didn’t see this during my time at NAB, but a link on www.43rumors.com took me to the story and video.
It apparently uses a 4K Aptina sensor and records to Ikegami’s GFCam flash memory system. A post at DVXUser.com claims, “target price around $20K, MPEG2 422@100/50 mbps to GFPAK, Release Autumn 2011”.
4/3″ is the sensor size used in the Panasonic AG-AF100 LSS camcorder and GH1/GH13/GH2 EVIL mirrorless cameras. It’s about 80% the size of a 35mm mopix frame or APS-C (e.g., Canon 7D).
Looks like the little Panasonics are going have a big brother—one with a long and honorable history in broadcast cameras. Autumn looks interesting…
FTC Disclosure
I attended NAB 2011 on a press pass, which saved me the registration fee and the bother of using one of the many free registration codes offered by vendors. I paid for my own transport, meals, and hotel.
No material connection exists between myself and the National Association of Broadcasters; aside from the press pass, NAB has not influenced me with any compensation to encourage favorable coverage.
