“David has been a pioneer in DAM for more than 15 years, and has helped to improve industry standards and practices through his writing and his many educational initiatives,” said Createasphere president Kristin Petrovich. “His DAM Survival Guide has become an invaluable resource to vendors and their customers worldwide and improved the DAM experience for everyone. We are very pleased to recognize his contributions as the recipient of the 2013 DAMMY of the Year.” This year’s competition attracted a record number of submissions for DAMMY-of-the-Year, resulting in the most competitive field in the award’s 3-year history.
Diamond said that he hopes the award will inspire further efforts toward knowledge sharing throughout the DAM industry. “I am very happy to accept this honor in recognition of the importance of DAM education,” Diamond observed. “Without quality DAM education materials, individuals and businesses become confused and can be misled. I hope this award encourages others in my field to try harder when it comes to the educational materials we provide our community. The focus of a DAM software vendor should be leadership, not lead generation.”
Diamond has worked in digital asset management since 1998. He has served as director of global marketing for Picturepark, a Swiss DAM software vendor, since early 2012. Prior to Picturepark, Diamond directed marketing for Canto Software, where he worked for 12 years. He has also held senior management positions with Apple and the University of Southern California. He began his DAM career as a freelance writer. At Picturepark, Diamond developed the DAM Guru Program, a free service that connects members of the international DAM community and also helps to place them with employers. Diamond is a frequent speaker and lecturer at industry events worldwide.
In addition to DAMMY-of-the-Year, categories for the DAMMY Awards include Best Storage, Archive, and or Preservation Solution; Best Strategy or Solution for Digital and Media Asset Management During the Acquisition of Content; Best Example of Asset & Media Repurposing; and Best Strategy Ease of Use for End-User Interface.
