Pinterest

I'm no luddite. I love technology, I'm an early adopter, beta tester and consultant on a lot of things. But social media, with the plethora of different options, are hard to learn and use effectively.

Honestly, I just tried Pinterest really for the first time. And it's so far been surprising. My girlfriend started using Pinterest for craft articles and ideas. She showed me and I was instantly hooked.

I like to browse the web for images on a particular topic. Typically, I read websites about that topic (keeping up with things in Action Sports, cars, other stuff I love and am interested in) so I often see some of the best images out there. But I also love trolling through images using Google, seeing trends and finding stuff I love (and some that I hate). Idea shopping all the way around. Pinterest is like a Google image search on steroids, because it's based on how people like it. It's not a random spider crawling through and categorizing images based on meta information and hits/links/pings, etc., it's actual people finding stuff they like and sharing it. Each image gets a reaction from someone strong enough for them to want to share.

I've started following some people, seeing what they find. And some of my friends are seeing what I'm liking there, thanks to links to it on Facebook and twitter. It's like a one-trick pony, yet not.

If you love looking at images that have already gotten a reaction from people, this is a cool way to do it. But not just images. For articles and other things that people love.

I know, some of you have been on for ages. But if you haven't tried it, you should! There are some great tutorials on Youtube to show you how to get started.

Oh, and if you want to follow me on Pinterest or just check out what I'm checking out, it's at http://pinterest.com/photony/.
