Autodesk was on many people’s minds at NAB 2014 as they were wanting to see the next advancement with Smoke for Mac. Autodesk didn’t make a huge feature splash with Smoke for Mac 2015 but instead announced a subscription model (yet another!). They also surprised many (and didn’t surprise others) with a new product called Flame Assist.
Autodesk goes into some good detail about this split of products between Smoke for Mac 2015 and this new Flame Assist product. They actually surprise me with some numbers they tossed out about who is using Smoke for Mac to support a Flame and who is using Smoke for Mac as it was really intended: to be used as a stand-alone product for editing and visual effects work. Besides the subscription model making it more affordable for some, Smoke for Mac 2015 and beyond should be an interesting product to watch.
Oh, and they added 3D tracker.
