Presented at IFA 2015, in Berlin, the new Philips 27” Full HD monitor (276E6ADS) is the first quantum dot desktop monitor to be available in Europe, from October onwards. It will also be available in the United States. Distributed in China since June this year, the 276E6ADS represents a technology many expect to see present in future monitors.

Even at the highest price points, most of today’s monitors are only capable of displaying less than 95% of the Adobe RGB standard, with mainstream models typically only capable of presenting roughly 70% of the Adobe spectrum. Using QD Vision’s Color IQ solution, we can now produce monitors that deliver the full Adobe RGB standard (>99%), but at much lower overall costs.
The new E line monitor is ideal for entertainment and gaming, as well as professional photography and design. The 276E6ADS combines Color IQ optics with full HD resolution, resulting in a professional-quality display at the price of mainstream desktop monitors.

The collaboration between Philips and QD vision does not stop at monitors. In fact, last June Philips launched the 55” 4K TV with QD Vision Color IQ optics. Color IQ optics produce natural, finely-tuned colors that enable better color saturation and color rendering than other technologies. QD Vision’s quantum dots allow displays to reach full-gamut 100% NTSC color performance at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions. The technology is pointed as the next big thing, so it will be interesting to see how fast it is adopted by other companies.

According to Dr. Jennifer Colegrove, CEO and principal analyst at Touch Display Research, Inc., 51% of monitors will adopt quantum dot technology by 2025. Touch Display Research recently published their second edition of the Quantum Dot Display and Lighting Technologies and Market Forecast Report.
Besides Philips, another monitor brand has shown interest in the Quantum dot technology: AOC Monitors. During the 2015 International CES, January this year, in Las Vegas, Sapling Chen, Global Product Planning, TPV (AOC Monitors), said “For the AOC 27” (I2771F9),Color IQ quantum dot technology provides a significant price performance advantage compared to other wide-gamut color technologies, with color that is equal to – or better than – comparable alternatives”.
