Generators in Final Cut Pro X are Motion projects that are stored in the Generators Browser. Many of the built-in generators are animated and can be used as background elements. By default, most of these generators are “looping”: if you trim the generator in your project to make it longer or shorter, the animation will repeat, and the speed of the animation won't change. But what if you did want it to change? It turns out that you can't retime a generator in the same manner that you would a video clip.
In this week's episode of MacBreak Studio, I show Steve Martin from Ripple Training a trick that will allow you to retime generators as easily as you would a video clip. By doing so, you'll be able to adjust the animation speed to match your project, and still trim the duration of the generator as needed as well. This same process applies to generators you make yourself in Motion.
