Lens wanted: MFT cinema-style zoom with geared rings and usable range, Contact Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K for more information. Chinese optics DZO has their answer to the above lens application with their 20-70mm T3.1 cinema zoom.
Ready for NAB 2019 DZO showed off their 20-70 at their booth with the lens attached to, not surprisingly, a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. What did I learn from testing the DZO lens?
DZO Chinese Lens Maker
This is the company’s first cinema-style zoom. Usually, the Chinese company makes lenses for manufacturing. The all-metal design had 0.8 pitched gears for Iris, Zoom, and Focus. The lens felt well made without being too heavy. It felt balanced in the hand when attached to the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. The lens also has a back focus adjust like Fujinon’s MK Zoom series. This is one feature I am happy to see on zoom lenses.
Now, testing a lens for its image quality on the NAB exhibit floor is not ideal. The lighting is, well, convention like. From an initial look, the 20-70mm lens appeared to have a decent look. DZO says the lens will be available in August and priced around $1700.
