HDRinstant is, according to its creators, the HDRlog company, a program which enables professional and amateur photographers to take video clips of moving scenes shot under high-contrast lighting and turn them into amazing HDR photos.
The interest of the recently created HDRlog for HDR imaging is not surprising: a co-founder of HDRsoft, the company responsible for the popular Photomatix software, is behind this project, which aims to develop a new way to use HDR-video. Early this month they started to offer a beta version for photographers, videographers, GoPro users and drone hobbyists (the most obivous clients for this technology) interested in participating in the beta testing.
According to HDRlog press-release, “even though standard HDR (high dynamic range) bracketing techniques work well, the photographer needs a camera equipped with bracketing capabilities, a tripod and a static scene. Our revolutionary patent-pending technology eliminates these constraints. With HDRinstant you are no longer limited to using expensive equipment or a tripod, allowing you to freely shoot scenes with moderate movement. Up until now, this has not been possible.”
HDRinstant provides HDR photographs for all scenes and for everyone. Firstly, HDRinstant’s innovative technology allows the user to create a fantastic HDR image from video footage. This unique feature is made possible by using the neighboring frames of the photographer’s favorite frame. This magic is quite simple to understand: 100 frames taken at 1/100 of a second is equivalent to 1 frame exposed for one second.
Secondly, the plug-in allows you to select your preferred moment in a given video sequence – you’ll never forget those cherished moments again with our simple to use plug-in.Thirdly, HDRinstant’s anti-ghosting capability removes motion blur when creating HDR images from several frames making it much easier to capture your favorite moment from a video sequence.
HDRinstant is as simple as this – after importing your video clip into Adobe Lightroom, extract as many images as possible (the more you extract the less noisy the final HDR photo will be). Afterwards select your favorite frame. Then you simply run the HDRinstant plug-in which will stack the frames and apply a special morphing algorithm to build the final HDR photograph. This powerful tool automatically aligns the stacked frames, eliminates camera shake and lets photographers improve the quality of certain areas that contain small details.

With HDRinstant, it is now possible to create stunning HDR images in difficult conditions – In our sunrise example not only have the dark details of the pebbles and the highlights been brought out, but we have chosen the precise moment in the video where the model is the most photogenic (hdrinstant.com).
The software has been developed for professional photographers and videographers who wish to turn an ordinary video clip into a stunning photograph. In addition to working with video clips, HDRinstant also works with a series of camera images taken in high-speed burst mode.
HDRinstant is a plug-in for Windows and Mac versions of Adobe Lightroom 4.0 or higher. A single-user license costs $59 (US) and includes one year of upgrades. For more information visit hdrinstant.com/.
