Understanding Libraries in Final Cut Pro 10.1

Understanding Libraries in Final Cut Pro 10.1 1

Welcome to our first MacBreak Studio on the brand new Final Cut Pro 10.1!

In this episode, Steve Martin from Ripple Training and I discuss the fundamental structural change in this very significant update: the move to a unified library model. While there are many workflow improvements in this update as well, it's the unified library model that is the biggest change.

Gone are the separate Project and Event libraries. Instead, Events are now contained in Libraries, and Projects and media are contained in Events. While it seems quite simple on the surface, this change has far-reaching implications for how you work with Final Cut Pro. For example, it makes media management much easier than it has been in the past.

It also means that, if you are updating to Final Cut Pro 10.1 from an earlier version, there is an update process you need to go through in order to collect your existing project and events into these unified libraries. While it is a simple and straightforward process, some preparation can go a long way.

We'll be exploring all the new features of Final Cut Pro 10.1 here on MacBreak Studio over the coming weeks; join us and let's learn together.
