C.A.K.E Creative Arts for Kids Expression launches as the first-of-its-kind for-profit mentoring arts initiative for children and young adults. C.A.K.E., Inc. based in Santa Monica, California, seeks to build a nationwide and global mentor network dedicated to supporting creative arts for children with its innovative outreach program, CakeLive.
“A mentor can make all the difference in a child’s life.” Explains Director and CEO, Sarahelizabeth Mason. “I see a mentor as someone who nurtures talent by sharing their own. And every living creature needs nurturing to thrive.”
CakeLive will pair at-risk children who have a demonstrated talent and passion for the creative arts (i.e. music, theater, comedy, visual arts, dance, digital arts etc.), but have no support, access or funding to develop their craft. Together with a professional mentor in their chosen discipline, the team of “Mentee and Mentor” will work together through the course of a six week project culminating in a live event.
A board of accredited educators, professionals in the arts, technology, and business has been assembled nationwide as CakeLive Mentors who will determine the criteria for Mentees and choose finalists. A nationwide call-for-entries will be announced in 2010.
The live events, to be produced by C.A.K.E. Inc., will feature the project award recipients performing and/or showcasing their art with prominent artists from the award recipient’s city. “Enhancing even one child’s spirit through the arts can strengthen a community.” States Creative Director, Kerry Remsen Cates “The goal isn’t to make every kid famous. But if you give a child validation for that spark they have inside them, they will believe they can accomplish anything.”
In addition to the creative arts two other disciplines will be offered to project participants, Business and the Arts, and Technology and the Arts. Business and Technology project award recipients will work together with the CakeLive creative arts award recipients in producing their project. “The internet and digital media have created a completely new ecosystem for creative arts.” Explains Mason. “In today’s world technology, business, arts, they’re all interconnected and interdependent.”
CakeLive.com will launch in 2010. The site will feature all the functionality of traditional social networking sites i.e. music, video and image sharing, interacting messaging, profiles, etc. Introduction of a CakeLive mobile application and video game are also in the works. “Technology is moving too fast to try and create the next great thing.” Explains Mason. “The goal is the mission, Nurturing a Child’s Spirit through the Art of Mentoring. The innovation is to strategically utilize the virtual world to spread it.”
Proceeds from ticket sales to the live events will benefit an awarded non-profit organization whose work has either directly benefited or affected the community positively. These selected charitable organizations will have the option to promote their organizations through the CakeLive.com website and the various CakeLive multi-media tools.
Corporate sponsorship opportunities will be available for all CakeLive events in addition to assorted options for advertisers on Cakelive.com and other CakeLive media outlets and applications.
