CS5 is finally public, and, in all my time at Adobe, I haven’t been this excited about a release. It’s like Christmas came early. For all the feature descriptions and previews in detail, head straight to the Production Premium home page. Also, check out Adobe TV to view a demo of these new features which I’m sure you’ll love:
• The all new Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro
• Rotobrush in After Effects CS5–turns week-long jobs into a half day’s work
• Content Aware Fill–the perfect tool for plate clean-up and creation in 3D workflows
• The benefits of 64 bit native performance and scalability
For me, this release has a few key themes:
First and foremost, performance, performance, performance! The shift to 64 bit native with After Effects CS5 and the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 are two key examples of the focus on performance. And they deliver incredible results.
The script to screen workflow involves new Adobe Story enabling easy shot list creation in Adobe OnLocation and rough cuts into Adobe Premiere Pro. And the script data helps deliver a finished, searchable asset to deliver huge efficiencies in production–and the potential for game changing experiences online.
This release pays a lot of attention to workflow and includes dozens of changes to help make everyday life easier. In addition to expanding our tapeless format support, we’ve added the ability to drag and drop sequences to the timeline, match sequence settings in outputs, edit keystrokes more efficiently, connect from Mocha to After Effects, and much more. And, there’s magical creative options too, such as content aware fill in Photoshop and Rotobrush in After Effects.
Perhaps, though, the best testament to CS5 is the excitement we’re seeing from users, and the arrival of new users, who are switching from other tools. Some are as visible as CNN, who are joining us on stage at the NAB keynote, and Hearst as they use our tools to re-define their news workflow, others are from a myriad of places.
We’ll have much more to say over the coming days as we dive deeper into different areas. But for now, welcome to CS5. We hope you’re as excited about the possibilities as we are. We look forward to chatting with you all at NAB, and answering your questions.
